Podocarpus Henkelii or Henkel’s YellowWood originates from KwaZulu Natal and the Eastern Cape mountainous areas. It is a very neat, compact, slow growing, evergreen tree with beautiful elegant drooping leaves. It can be planted throughout South Africa.
With the Christmas season approaching this tree will be the ideal indigenous and environmentally friendly tree to decorate for Christmas. This YellowWood can be planted in a container and will grow in the container for a few years. After decorating it will last for a few weeks indoors in bright light. After Christmas put it back outdoors in a sunny to semi-shade position, fertilise and pamper it until the next Season.
When it gets pot-bound or too big for the pot it can be transplanted into the garden where it will reach 5 to 10 metres in height in a few years.
