This handsome tree is ideal for medium to small gardens and has a non-invasive root system. It seldom grows bigger than 8m tall. It is deciduous and after dropping its leaves in winter the branches are filled with drooping mauve flowers mimicking the well-known wisteria creeper in spring. The flowers are fragrant. It is frost tender when young and does well in gardens in the northern parts of Johannesburg. It is indigenous and can withstand dry spells.
Be on the lookout to find a Tree-wisteria in flower in your neighbourhood. The sight of how beautiful it is will prompt anyone to plant one immediately.
